@lexi

inspired by someone finding out about deadname remover under my last post. i have a lot of useful extensions beside that, so i thought i'd make a list because they are very useful and not everyone knows them

all available on the chrome web store unless noted otherwise. there may be firefox equivalents, but i use chromium so idk but a lot of those should be available there too

  • vimium c: use your browser like vim. very nice if you are a keyboard person or mouse(wheel) movement is straining for you
  • 7tv: better twitch experience
  • activitywatch web watcher: self-hosted, open-source metrics tracking for your browser
  • auro audio device router: lets you pick an output device for the current tab. very useful if you have a virtual audio device with noise cancelling, like nvidia broadcast or easyeffects
  • history trends unlimited: tracks your history better, with advanced search & backup options
  • indie wiki buddy: redirects from fandom wikis to breezewiki, which is essentially fandom without the bullshit. also recommends indie wikis
  • sci-hub now (on github): removes paywalls to papers in one click
  • zotero connector: one-click scientific citations
  • jetbrains toolbox extension: one-click jetbrains project cloning from github/gitlab etc.
  • bitwarden: my password manager, could not live without it
  • copy as markdown: adds that as a button to your context menu. occasionally useful, but if your editor supports it (like obsidian), you don't need it most of the time
  • dark reader: dark mode, everywhere. one of the first extensions i install on new browsers
  • deadname-b-gon | deadname remover: you tell it your deadname and chosen name, and it will automatically replace your deadname on websites. deadname-b-gon has more options, deadname remover is easier to use
  • extensity: a meta-extension. it essentially is the extensions page, but as an extension. you can toggle extensions with one click, toggle all, make profiles and even make rules per page. a must-have for extension hoarders like me
  • languagetool: my spell/grammar checker of choice. saved my dyslexic ass a billion times
  • save page WE: saves webpages as one bundled HTML file, including canvases, images, videos etc. very useful and doesn't create a separate folder for assets like browsers usually do, great when you're occasionally offline
  • tampermonkey: a userscript manager. essentially lets you use mini-extensions written in JS
  • stylus: like tampermonkey, but only for CSS
  • ublock origin: the ad blocker
  • wappalyzer: identifies web technologies. if you ever wondered what a website is using internally, wappalyzer tells you

site-specific:

  • youtube:
    • enhancer for youtube: a bunch of QoL things for youtube, like windowed fullscreen videos
    • return youtube dislike: you can guess what this does. (only does an estimate though, not 100% accurate!)
    • sponsorblock: can block sponsored segments, plus a lot more annoyances in user content on yt like interaction reminders
  • twitter:
    • blue blocker: blocks annoying people
    • control panel for twitter: removes annoying stuff. you can get the cohost metrics experience on the bird app with it
    • twitter media downloader: you're never gonna guess

You must log in to comment.

in reply to @lexi's post:

I wouldn't generally recommend "return youtube dislike", at least not without explaining that it extrapolates a pretend number of dislikes from users of the extension, which is probably a pretty biased sample
