daily knowledge: if you join an empty voice channel on discord, the voice server it connects you to will be based on your connection quality, the traffic discord is experiencing, and perhaps most importantly, your location. discord will connect you to the best server, and everyone who joins the voice channel afterwards will be connected to that same server.
this can lead to a scenario where one person, who lives in singapore, can join a voice channel and get connected to one of discord's singapore servers, and two people who live in new jersey can join the channel afterwards and get connected to that same singapore server. if the person in singapore leaves the call, the two people in new jersey will stay connected to that server unless they both disconnect from the voice channel and reconnect to it once it's empty. at this point, a new connection will be established and the new jerseyians will likely be connected to discord's newark server.
