I like the polish of the puzzles and the size more than avx's. I also kind of feel like their layout/interface is a bit stronger than puzzmo's. They also have a different feel though, so it's maybe worth doing some NYT's to find out if you like their tone/theming.

Seattle times has NYT puzzles online for free (NYT puzzles in other newspapers are delayed a month or two so the puzzle it lists for today will be different than today's NYT. interface is also different) so maybe try some out?

oh, some important things to know:

Monday–Thursday are themed puzzles and they get progressively harder as the week goes on and the theme often gets more elaborate
Friday/Saturday are themeless and are on the harder end
Sunday is bigger than normal. it has a theme (and a title that hints at the theme) and is usually around tuesday/wednesday difficulty
Toughness varies week to week (and person-to-person. sometimes a crossword is more or less suited to your skills/knowledge)

So you're coming in to a crossword style you might not have the feel for on a day of the week where people tend to say the puzzles get harder

ok yeah i went through today's (thursday ("went through" as in "gave up quickly and revealed it part by part")) and hated it. but thank you for the link and the info! it was good for me to try it out

Probably another paper's crosswords. NYT on the whole has lost the plot.
