The specific third space everyone longs for as an adult is the cafeteria. You all just miss the cafeteria. You miss going to the dining hall and the whole community of people you know are there. You want to be able to go somewhere and be around friends without explicitly having to make plans to hang out.
I feel like Discord servers can occupy this void in some small manner. Passively able to interact with large quantities of people without needing to specifically seek individuals out

I avoided the cafeteria like it was full of bees. I miss the band room’s four broken down donated couches, where I took the cafeteria food with my friends.
when i was living in a Medium Sized City i loved this about the downtown bar triangle zone. i could reliably count on just going down there and Seeing Someone I Knew. i have been chasing this feeling for a long time
my uni didn’t have a cafeteria but just now appreciating the friend who made the local coffee shop such a staple for our group where any of us could roll up and he and a few others might already be there and we could hang without planning to do so
if I could add one well-run government-subsidized piece of infrastructure to my city it would be a cafeteria that's mandated to sell food at-cost. this is above public transport on my list of priorities
