i've been going through some recommendations for the queer games bundle, especially personal ones from taylor mccue, and i finished these two manifestos that deserve to be read together as suggested by mccue.
good writers are perverts is a manifesto that's been recommended on cohost and elsewhere, but it should get another signal boost. the observation that the hyperfixation of perverts and sickos on fetishes is closely correlated to good art is often brought up, but this is one of the more lucid essays on this subject. all artists are perverts -- or if you will, sickos. it's personally why i've adopted sicko into my personal dictionary for praise.
QUEER DEGENERATES 4EVER, on the other hand, cuts through the bullshit of LGBTQ+ politics as "progressive". it brings up how policing queerness is done by those who seek to civilize/colonize the global south, in this case southeast asia. once this amnesia has been enacted and the colonialists have left their colonies with their regressive laws, savvy conservative politicians are then able to say that the LGBTQ+ Agenda is some western progressive nonsense. they'll bring up so-called "asian values" and how they don't jive with these "western values" as if being anti-LGBTQ+ is some epic postcolonialist project! instead, we should stop thinking like the us democrats want us to think -- queerness is "progressive" and "liberal" -- and instead see it as anti-imperialism. this is an essay i wholeheartedly agree with as someone who lives in two neighboring countries. the country the essay features is malaysia, but i've heard it echoed in singapore and indonesia.
i'm glad i'm taking the time to go through the queer games bundle. i like more stuff like this and i want to make my own contribution too someday.
