redfall is one of those releases where I could see a couple alternate versions of the structure that would have resonated better and properly utilized the studio's strengths in creating complex scenarios to run through

version 1: mission/campaign-based like L4D or deeprock, but with immersive sim elements where each player can use their unique ability sets to work around tight situations. you're mostly fighting zombie-ish vampire thralls who have various powers depending on the enemy type. the actual vampires are Oh Shit Be Careful obstacles like witches or tanks in L4D

version 2: mostly single-player game cribbing off of dying light. again, mostly fighting thralls while exploring the map to gather supplies. vampires are still big deals where you have to decide between staying away from them or potentially using a lot of resources to take them down in order to make that area safer to operate in, along the lines of lickers in RE2

in general the vampires needed to be serious threats that most of the systems revolve around. I'm not sure how we got this version where they awkwardly run at you and can be easily dispatched with 2-3 shotgun rounds. this is not the kind of gameplay experience any seasoned developer sets out to make
