almost every sociopolitical problem in the global west can be traced back to "the majority of our tax money is wasted on police and military excess instead of services that have a demonstrable positive effect" and your political leaning is determined by a) how much you think that it's an actual issue, and b) what you think we should do about it
"who's going to pay for centralized public transportation?" decrease military/police spending
"how do you expect to cover housing/food/healthcare for every citizen?" decrease military/police spending
"where are we going to get the funding for teachers?" decrease military/police spending
obviously there are other elements like rich people not paying taxes, but that also ties back to "decrease military/police spending" because those forces serve primarily to maintain entrenched power structures i.e. protect rich people
discussion about what to do with discord had one person suggest nationalizing services like that, which was met with the usual lib post of "and who is going to pay for it?"
lib and neolib mindset can be boiled down to "knows that we spend too much on the police/military, but it's a necessary evil because skeletron from terraria will appear and kill us if we don't have armed forces to defeat them"
unless you can get the voting majority of a nation to agree that these services don't actually do anything and need to be dismantled, no meaningful change will happen to any downstream problem caused by 20% of taxes going to building trillion dollar stealth jets that can't even take off
