having twitter go the way it has is taking out one of the biggest vectors for unification and activism for leftist politics. whether it's coincidence or an intentional goal, due to the recent change in visibility systems and moderation, it's both much more difficult to find those politics on the site and much easier for people posting those views to be harassed

I don't think the old management ever actually liked how much those views found purchase on their platform, but the lingering fear was losing a substantial percentage of their users if they made a strong push against it, which is not a fear shared by the new management for which the site is entirely a vanity project

where does anyone go after this? how do we stay as informed about current events that won't get coverage by major news organizations? there are small online pocket communities like this, and still local activism groups in major cities, but the majority of people using social media will never seek either of these out themselves
