in the discussions around the suicide squad game, the wholehearted suggestion that it should have just been a justice league game are… look, did any of you actually play the crystal dynamics avengers?

that game's problem is that because just about every character had their own proprietary mechanics, you couldn't design a component that could fit on all or even most of them, everything had to be character-specific. games in the same sphere like destiny and warframe have classes with their own mechanics, but they all universally use 99% of the same weapons and equipment. this meant that those games could come up with any amount of gear with new and unique mechanics, and it could be used be all players regardless of their class. exotic gear in destiny 2 has some buckwild unique mechanics, often more interesting than the class abilities

outside of skill tree differences, there was no easy way to give all the avengers characters new unique weapons to use. unless crystal dynamics had 10x the development resources, all the characters would forever behave virtually the same with no room for player expression. anyone who played the game for more than 2 hours could see that big glaring problem holding the dev team back

there's myriad issues with suicide squad, and it's absurd on its face that all four of these characters are gun-users despite their inherent abilities, but they made a pretty reasonable decision to do that within the constraints of the format they were stuck in. playable justice league would have the exact same problems as avengers, right down to the bone

some folks really, really need to learn that game studios are not magic pixie factories and that any design decision incurs a direct cost in terms of time or monetary resources
