After nine years of use and a great deal of hemming and hawing, I finally, finally retired my Acer desktop. The AX1420-G was an old banger even when I got her, recovered from a yard sale and rebuilt with a new case and accessories. Still, it's worked reliably for nearly a decade (and who knows how long before that), and it's loaded with memories and personal experiences, as all good computers should be.
I got a little misty eyed unplugging her, which is not the usual reaction I get from upgrading technology. Back when I was a teenager, I couldn't get rid of my XT quickly enough, but some thirty years later, I've found myself getting attached to my old equipment. I suppose I could always replace the torturously slow spinning hard drive with an SSD and wring just a little more life out of the old girl... or I can simply let her retire with dignity and move on to the next chapter of my digital life.
