introducing mixtapegarden.com, a communal mixtape making site

how it works is you make an account, make a mixtape, and then you (or anyone else!) add seven youtube videos to it. once the seventh has been added, the tape is magically converted to a single, crossfaded mp3 that you can stream or download.

i've been working on this on and off for six months, and i'm happy to finally announce its public release! i'd really love if people shared it with their music friends, so please pass it along to anyone you think might enjoy it. feel free to suggest any improvements you'd like to see in the comments below, too!

you can check "Hide from frontpage" when you create a new mixtape (or edit an existing one) so that no one else can see it till it's ready for primetime

I’m sure you’re getting a lot of feature requests, but here are some more to throw on the list to potentially consider hehe, all on the listener side — it’d be nice to be able to (privately?) fav/bookmark certain mixes to be able to return to them later; might be convenient if there was an auto-play thing so the next completed mix starts playing after the current one finishes; and some global player controls (including shuffle!) would be sick.

Another thought — it'd be neat if the "completed" filter sorted by mixtape completion date instead of mixtape creation date! Would make discovering older but newly-completed mixes easier

i've been using and loving mixtape garden and i got curious while listening to a mix... i think it might be cool to have a play count, maybe even a download count too, but i have no idea how that stuff works. just think it'd be nice to know how many people have listened to or own my mixtape.
