Stupid thoughts and hopefully less stupid articles occasionally. Gaming and tech thoughts mostly, but I have a smattering of completely off-the-wall interests as well.

(I’m only chosting my favorite updates, so don’t go looking for earlier days from me. Also this is my first playthrough, so please don’t spoil in comments!)

Messrs of the Reform Club,

We arrived early in the morning in Vienna. It is a wonderful and terrible place, in the classical sense. There is a constant melody suffusing the streets in the market, cheerful enough, but with the mechanical patrols in step with the beat it’s quite clear the inspiration is more from a marching flute’s jaunty flurries than anything else. It reminds me of Socrates’s exhortations that a ruler must learn arithmetic as math of the first dimension, harmony as math of the second, and astrology as math of the third dimension. It is indeed difficult at times to shake the feeling of the patrols moving in the orbits of massive bodies, cold unshakable rhythms that delightful melodies barely disguise from plain sight…when this empire goes to war we shall see the collision of worlds, with a fitting orchestration to boot.

I would love to be out of this city, but the car to Warsaw does not leave until tomorrow, and only that after some incentive. We checked into a hotel for the night, and the clock swept quickly towards morning, the tick tocks marking the movement of armies.

Sincerely, modulusshift
