i am personally responsible for the following horrible things here:
introducing... chroma! a tool to force all your electron apps onto a shared runtime.
chroma keeps the JS & HTML of your apps and deletes everything else that the shared runtime can provide instead. this frees up hundreds of megabytes of space for each chromafied app.
caveats, for now: linux only, no flatpak or AppImage support
i am tired of electron as a concept
but this seems like a step in the right direction!
i feel like it being iterated upon + embraced by the OS more could "fix" many of Electron's issues, and make it a nicer experience. but yeah Electron is fucked right now
electrons whole raison d'être is that the os cannot be trusted so bundle everything together along with a browser so the end user never has to worry about it
this was always a fundamental error and littered our drives with sometimes gigabytes of insecure and non-updatable browsers
its such a weird phenomenon
