i remain astounded by the creativity of our users. y'all are doing shit that, even if in theory i know how to do it, i wouldn't think of in a million years. it fuckin rules.

one of our persistent goals was to try and create something which felt, in some ways, like old internet. we thought our best bet for accomplishing this was user-based recommendations and discovery (things we're shipping soon) and being algorithm-less. it's really cool to me that the real way we did it is by giving users a blank canvas and a set of tools, even if they're limited, and inviting them to go wild.

we've always wanted to enable weird net art on the platform and one of our (eventual, don't bank on this shipping anytime soon, possibly ever) plans was to try and ship a way for users to just dump processing.js instances in their posts. we still want to do this, or something else, to give users tools to make even more weird posts.

it's exciting times. we're still early, obviously, but i continue to feel really positively about cohost and feel like we've created something special. and it's even more exciting that we've had enough success with cohost Plus! subscriptions that, while we're obviously not sustainable yet, we're going to get there with time.

that's all for now. thank you for using cohost :eggbug:

this might be a hot take, but: please, never give us JS (or processing.js). part of the enjoyment is the challenge in making it in ways that was never intended.

ASSC have created a social media platform that's actually fun to use and tinker with. Posts don't have a character limit. No time pressure. The built-in page switching system is amazing. A user can have a page dedicated for let's say updates, alts, serious stuff, etc... and it flows well. Love to see what you have planned for the future!

i'm not comfortable enough with our sandboxing right now to add inline svg support (i've got some changes i'm tooling with but they're more like experiments atm) but yeah maybe someday
