Dealing with audio clipping issues in Pico-8. I can set the volume lower in config.txt and that seems to maybe help, but I think that just affects my local interpreter, not the exported game. What are best practices here? Hopefully not going through all the music and setting each note to a lower volume.
Also! If I set reverb on by poking 0xf into 0x5f41, recurring footstep noises make the music unlistenable. My analysis of what's happening is that the sound now takes longer to decay, so when a new sound plays it's more likely to be allocated into a different channel whereas with reverb off it'd reuse the same channel. Also, since I'm playing sound by printing p8scii control codes, I can't specify what channel to play in and am at the mercy of the channel allocation logic. I guess my only question here is "am I right about how unfixable this is"
