Sandwich Imagineer at Twinbeard. Made Frog Fractions. May or may not have already made Frog Fractions 2 through 5.

A mysterious world that you are dropped into with no guidance, with only subtle design cues to guide you along. But recently I revisited the manual, and it included maps to and of the first two dungeons, and lots and lots of explicit world building and story exposition. My childhood impressions of Zelda 1 were apparently formed entirely when I replayed it in emulation in my twenties.

i remember reading the (wonderful) LoZ manual in the back of the family car, after nightfall, in the sporadically lit parking lot of a Hechinger home improvement store. dunno where we bought LoZ, but that's where we stopped before heading home.

i'm going to suggest the friend i'm introducing to classic video games try Zelda in a while. i'll definitely be recommending they don't skip the manual.
