  • Jazz or blues influenced harmony -- the basis for a huge portion of modern music for the western audience -- is inextricably linked to the 12-tone equal temperament system. You can't do jazz chord progressions in Pythagorean tuning, just intonation, meantone or whatever; they are inherently chromatic. No jazz or blues means no rock and roll, no pop, no R&B. (Rap and techno would probably be fine.)
  • If you've listened to comparisons and think 12-TET is ugly, you are fooling yourself. I have excellent relative pitch. (Source: I've been tested and can consistently tell which of two notes a 64th-tone apart is higher. The test didn't even bother asking about 128th tones. It just gave up. I beat the test.) I usually can't hear a difference between a piece played in 12-TET and a more traditional temperament. Sometimes I can tell there is a difference, but I can't tell which one is which.
