not sure if it was the twitter outage yesterday or something else, but it seems like misskey.io had a surge of accesses/registrations and is now temporarily down (edit: it's back up, and apparently it was a DDoS that happened at the same time as the influx of new users).

kind of hoping that each misstep at twitter will bring more users to other services, but the current pattern with decentralized social media sites is for the flagship server du jour to get swamped with activity and then either close new registrations or go 503.

i don't really have anything intelligent to say about this. i'm still anxiously looking to see where the majority of japanese-speaking twitter users are going to move to (if at all)

Yeah, I saw someone from J-Mastodon I follow reblogging a post about that cycle, and hoping people end up spreading out a bit more. I'm not sure how it'll play out.

Yeah, I was sparked to write this after seeing the same post. i think it will take time to spread the message about the cultural diversity of different instances in the fediverse (i.e., not everyone has to be in the same place, and that's fine) as opposed to J-media articles taking the "this specific server is the next up-and-coming twitter replacement" perspective (though the media might not end up taking a different perspective. who knows)

Heh, yeah. Feels like it's slightly different from the mastodon.social dynamic, but not that different.

Did find it interesting that someone I follow opened an alt account on mstdn.beer because she realized a lot of westerners couldn't see her dog photos on mstdn.jp. I wasn't sure how much J-Mastodon was aware of how much the Sujitech servers are cut off from the rest of the fediverse.
