with the advent of audio uploads, here's a repost of one of my favorite straight arrangements i've done! this track comes from the second madou monogatari game and has some of my favorite things musically going on--emotionally-complex 9th and 11th chords, 5/4 meter, dense rhythmic percussion, restating the melody with a lower 3rd harmony... yes, i could go on.

this arrangement was done entirely by ear and uses my favorite chip combo: extra pulse wave channels from the MMC5 chip alongside the FDS variable wave channel.

it's the precursor to the puyo puyo franchise! puyo puyo was initially either a madou monogatari spinoff or just The Next Game for the series. either way it uses the same characters and setting. basically, madou monogatari is pretty old! somewhere in the ballpark of 1989-1991 i would guess

I've been coming back to this for the past few days - it's so good! My knees begin to buckle when I think about the lineage of Madou Monogatari games and so I have only ever played and listened to the music of the Mega Drive version. The original track is really cool and I really like your arrangement for it - it sounds great in your instrumentation!!
