Hey, y’all. I’ve got a new cryptid community-building project in Philly, and I’ve realized it probably appeals to many people here. It’s called Dykes, Trans, and Fags.
Sicko Screenings is my first project under that umbrella. Without being too precious about gay history, I wish there was a modern equivalent of porno theaters where T4T mistakes of creation could meet, cruise, and share space with each other. Everything like that in Philly, except perhaps the Bike Stop, has horrifically transphobic policies, sucks, or both. I love spending time in sedate yet roilingly sexual environments with other genderweirdos who can vibe like that.
Maybe nobody fucks, or maybe they all fuck and are sufficiently subtle about it that nobody notices or cares. I think that’s a lot of fun, personally. My goal with DTF is to create spaces like that, center transfems in the programming and creation of those spaces, and to make it as free+accessible as possible. This is the third Sicko Screenings. This time, the first film is The Yakuza Clan’s Heir is a Trans Woman by Hitoshi Ozawa (big huge thanks to yaffle and co for surfacing this amazing film, and to Amaranth for bringing it to my extremely offline attention). It’s a story about a yakuza clan whose new boss turns out to be a hostess in a Shinjuku newhalf bar. It’s as much a story of the yakuza dudes’ relationship to transness as much as it is about her inheritance of the clan. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, you’ll cheer, you’ll shake your head at the amateurish white balance.
After a short intermission, we’ll be watching an anthology of freaky, kinky porn graciously donated by Carta Monir. I expect Carta needs no introduction to those on cohost. She and her work (Napkin, especially)[https://cartamonir.itch.io/napkin] have been very personally inspiring to me. I don’t think I’d have the language to describe what kind of community ties I want to cultivate without her work. A respectable, timid, burgeoning trans woman who hadn’t yet named herself Monica found Carta’s work at a critical moment, and I would like to celebrate her freaky bullshit. I’m splitting donations from this screening with her.
