Petrodactyl spotter in exile

A part of me really wants to do a series of articles (for lack of better word) on some Finnish people who did really interesting and unique stuff, but who the rest of the world knows nothing about. Take for example Gösta Sundqvist, a comedian and a musician and also a weird eccentric hermit who never toured with his massively popular band and wrote songs about transsexuals before rest of the country even knew what that word was.

I dunno. I just think it's a shame that due lack of a common language stories of many interesting individuals are often limited to only their country of origins, unless they're stories that reinforce our preconceptions about what people from that country are like. Sure, people will laugh at the story of an IRL stingy Scottsman, but how about the story of a really GENEROUS Scottsman, who's going to tell that? Who's going to tell me the story of the best tuba player in China, or an alternative punk rock band from Kenya? There's fascinating stories out there if we look for them. I just thought I might do my own small bit in sharing some life stories nobody outside of Finland really knows.

Genuinely I'd love to read more of this sort of thing. Just stories about cool people, they type where everyone who knows it just has it as an unremarked part of their culture, but to everyone else it's completely novel.

Jumping onto the bandwagon and also saying I'd love to read this kind of thing. Also if you think of a good tag for this kind of thing I could write stuff about Israeli culture people are entirely unaware of outside of the country like the fact that the most popular radio station is the IDF one that plays popular music

That sounds really interesting and I would love to read about that. I will definitely let you know if I come up with a good tag, though I'm warning you not to get your expectations up too much, as so far my tag usage has pretty much been limited to "cat".
