Yesterday

Got everything done except going to the rockyard and doing my workout because I wanted to spend the last day before this business trip spending time with my family rather than grinding hard. It was a pretty pleasant day.

Dinner

Made chicken stir fry for dinner. It turned out nicely.

Today

Woke up and did my usual stuff kind of slowly and then packed all my stuff and spent a little bit more time with Ren. I head out after I put Smallbun down for her nap and don't get back until Friday. Ugh.

Feelings

I have a couple of things that popped into my head.

Feeling Crunched

The way that I've structured my days leads to me feeling constantly crunched for time even on weekends. This comes up because yesterday after Ren went for her run, she requested that I stay until after Smallbun's nap so that she'd have a support. I did so, but then I basically lost my head of steam and decided a workout wasn't worth it.

Perhaps the biggest bane of my day is that I have a pretty full task-list even on my least-busy days. This combines in a particularly awful way with the ever-present Fragmentation Problem. I've noticed that when I stop for long enough, I end up losing my will to restart. The way to avoid this is to not stop working off of the To-Do List until the To-Do List is complete. This means AVOID DAY FRAGMENTATION.

So, we have breakfast at 7:00AM, and then I pretty much get started. Smallbun naps at around noon, so I have about five hours before the first major potential interruption. After that, there's Smallbun's nap. I can get a little bit more done during that block, and then Smallbun wakes at 3PM, so I break for that, then I break to start dinner at 4PM, then I'm pretty much done after that.

I don't even have my cadence with job duties yet and I'm already feeling crunched, partially because of fragmentation, but definitely because of that 3PM shutdown. It's way too early. Ren likes Having Dinner At 5:00PM and I've always struggled with that. I really wish we could have dinner at 6:00PM, or failing that, 5:30PM.

I'm afraid that if I don't bring this up eagerly that Ren is going to be upset when the pleasant little cadences that she's taken for granted suddenly meet the realities of me doing my best for a new job and also me trying to take care of myself and my other obligations.

Algorithms Kudos

I noticed prior to today that I would always rush through algorithms and make errors and I was wondering if I'd reach a point where I'd have to force myself to be a bit more deliberate. As it would turn out, I don't need to do that because today I noticed myself being less hasty about the algorithms. Less rushed. It's like before I was afraid that if I didn't type it out full-blast (making mistakes) then it wouldn't stay in my brain. Now I feel more confident. That's a nice deal.

Goals

Since I'm leaving home for a week, I'm doing some light planning surrounding how to make progress on my monthly goals, namely, what goals can I accomplish while away. I should finish reading my book this month while I'm there, and also add like ten Leetcode Easy Problems more into circulation so that I've hit that goal. Other than that, I will definitely be "Surviving The First-Week On-Site", so that goes on there.

I can also get my mentor committed to coming on-site next week, and get the ball rolling on this month's quotes: Side Yard Tree Removal, Asphalt, Plumbing Issues. If I can get those knocked out, this month's backlog will look much smaller.
