I'm a moon bunny bassist oneesan called Sashi. I like anime, games, long runs, music, and gardening.

Yesterday

I was largely supposed to have a recovery day after travel, however, recovery day for me means getting things caught up, ordered, and ready to re-enter my usual routine. I went through my morning routine, played bass, did my reviews, and kicked off prior authorization process for my medications with the new insurance.

Smallbun was acting strangely all of yesterday and we had no good explanation for it. We spent some time during her nap.

I also scheduled a time to get a quote for asphalting the first few vehicle-lengths of driveway, on getting the side yard trees cleared, and with my mentor on what needs to be done next for the gym remodel, made progress enough on the Leetcode problems that I can call that Goal Complete, and started work on the next landscaping DIY project.

So in other words, trying to knock out monthly goals prior to returning to a more peaceful and consistent schedule.

Today

Smallbun was up until 3AM yesterday, like I said, she was acting weird, and it turns out she'd eaten one of my Vyvanse pills yesterday morning since I was so discombobulated that I hadn't followed my usual routine of putting shit away. Hurray. Hurray. It's my fault! She seems a lot more okay this morning, but that explains all of the looping she was doing.

Today I have no real grand plans beyond recovering from the trip and the hell that Smallbun made of yesterday night due to my inattention. After my usual morning rituals, I plan to work to do project work or visit the rockyard.

Feelings

I'm extremely upset at myself for not putting my medications in the right spot. It doesn't matter if my ADHD medications gave my life back if they had ended up taking Smallbun from us. Fuck.

Other than that, I'm just... glad to be home even if I'm exhausted from the chaos of an infant staying up until 3AM.

Schedule Adjustments

I'm trying to think about how to better manage my schedule, expectations and overload and while I haven't fully formed the process, it's basically that even though I want every day to be maximally the same, there's too few hours in the day for me to do that and the number of tasks ends up wearing on me.

I'm thinking about reworking my sections first into:

  • Anchors: Schedule-Related Stuff like the morning routine, writing my morning Cohost, etc.
  • Drills: Self-Improvement or Self-Maintenance tasks like Workouts, Bass, Algorithms Reviews
  • Chores: Operations-related stuff for the place I live
  • Work: Stuff I do for pay
  • Projects: Stuff I do that once done, it stays done. Does not include Work Projects.

Now, here's the thing: Workouts take a long time. Job-related stuff can take a long time. Projects can take a long time. Given all of these things, it's possible but unrealistic to expect that I do my project work, all my drills (because the workout takes so long), visit the rockyard AND do my coding job work in the same day.

For that purpose, I'm thinking about the following rules:

  • Drills are cognitively the #1 best thing for me to consider a day to be "Good"
    • This means that they're the #1 priority long-term.
    • This does not mean that they are an absolute #1 priority every day.
    • Due to the Spaced Repetition System, reviews should always be #1 daily priority.
  • Projects are long-term Priority #2
    • It is permissible to skip anchors, bass, or workouts for project progress.
    • It is not permissible to skip work on a weekday.
    • It is not permissible to skip morning and evening anchors.
    • It is permissible to skip midday anchors but only if I'm feeling overwhelmed.
  • Work, The Rockyard, and Anchors That Fragment The Day are Priority #3
    • Qualifications:
      • I should be able to show incremental progress on Work every day.
      • I should not fall so far behind on the drilling that it inconveniences the rockyard.
  • Chores are Priority #4
    • This does not mean IGNORE THEM.

The reason why I'm restructuring this is to give myself some daily flexibility instead of insisting that 100% is the only acceptable amount for a perfect day because sometimes I complete all of a day's tasks and instead of feeling like I succeeded, I feel like I survived.

I should keep the monthly project load small enough that I can have a preponderance of rest days. I'm defining a rest day like this:

  • I'm present for all my anchors.
  • I complete all my drills and chores.
  • I work if it's a workday.
  • I visit the rockyard.
  • I do not do anything MORE than that, and have time for quiet and reflection or to play.

Goals

I spent yesterday attacking projects. As mentioned above, I scheduled a quote for asphalt, got the plumbing fixes scheduled, my DIY mentor had some free time so we met same-day, I made enough progress on Leetcode problems that I can call it good for this month, I set a couple of rocks for the parking area, and I did a lot of work with fixing the terrace garden.

I've also reminded my contact for side yard tree removal that I wanna get that done.

Today, if my dad isn't using the tractor, I'll prioritize the work on the terrace garden's first tier, and if not, I'll do incremental work on either the parking area border or on cleaning up the discontinued container garden.
