what were some movies that were really important to you as a kid? a movie that inspired you, shaped your world view/personality, scared the shit out of you...

all three of the original star wars trilogy were and are crazy important to me. i literally got my mom to rent the vhs tapes for all three of those on rotation for like a year straight (im definitely not autistic). i still wish more movies took from the "modern silent film" style of star wars. but on a technical level, i think empire strikes back has one of the most important moments for me. it's really short, but there's a snowspeeder that's going over and down a snowbank and you can FEEL IT. probably one of the earliest moments in my life showing me how a movie can physically affect you thru solid camerawork. i still think about it today. then on thematic level, the ending of return of the jedi with luke throwing away his lightsaber and saying "i am a jedi like my father before me" is probably my fav moment in a movie ever. faith in people can make them do things they thought impossible.

i also watched sooooo many slasher movies as a kid. specifically the friday the 13th movies. they're probably responsible for why i love horror movies so much. fantastic and very upsetting use of first person to raise tension. slasher movies gotta make a comeback sometime fr.

and this is the least surprising thing to hear a trans woman who was born in the 90s say, but the matrix made me trans. extremely funny how even when i was a tiny little kid i would get SO MAD when smith deadnamed neo. like STOP!!!! his name is NEO!!!! but also neo getting shot a million times and then standing up and just being like "no" and not even looking at smith, oh that's fucking kino.
