i keep trying to work up the energy to finish 6.1-6.5 but i was lukewarm on ffxiv even during shadowbringers, and i just can’t do it. i don’t mind a lot of dialogue, but i’ve given ffxiv so much of my time on the promise “it gets amazing” but it just never goes beyond people standing in rooms talking, whether voiced or (overwhelmingly) unvoiced. you can have the best story in the world, but if you have borderline non-existent presentation it doesn’t really matter does it

i remember being so bored by shb that i dropped it for like 3 or 4 months, something i hadnt done up until that point. i remember finally getting back to it, and entering the final(?) area, the city place, and thinking “oh this is neat” and that’s it. all that hype, all that time invested, for a “oh huh this is neat” moment? no offense to anyone who likes ffxiv but i’ve never seen anything so aggressively overhyped

6.1-5 is a hard sell even if you actually vibe with the story. it’s just the most aggressively mediocre shit. honestly between that, the dicey pitch for the next expansion and the way 6.0 closes out the story up to that point there’s kind of never been a better time to just drop the game if you aren’t feeling it.
