yeah KOTOR absolutely counts; it’s a pretty conventional example of the genre. most crpgs are closer to KOTOR than say, disco elysium or bg3.

they absolutely should make a Star Wars crpg that’s more free form though that’d rock.

There’s the Shadowrun games that came out a few years ago now - both Dragonfall and Hong Kong are some of the best to ever do it. a Warhammer 40k one called Rogue Trader just came out, but i’ve not played it.

There’s one called Colony Ship that looks really cool and people seem to like a lot. There’s a demo for it on Steam. I wish I could speak on it directly but unfortunately I’m nowhere near as good at keeping up with cool new games as I am replaying Dark Souls 1 twice consecutively.

Honestly though most CRPGs cleave to fantasy pretty heavily. It sucks I feel like I’ve spent decades pining for more SciFi CRPGs.
