I have never gotten into any of the Ghost in the Shells, despite multiple tries. Multiple tries, because despite not really liking the series, the Stand Alone Complex soundtrack is a foundation for an entire sector of my musical taste.1

Another fundamental sector of my musical taste, at least from December 1 on, is Christmas songs full of excessive drama, the sort of thing for which they made the word "intrigue." (See also: the song scheduled for Day 25. If you know me, you may know what it is.) The loud weaponized tinselly festivity of Clear Channel-endorsed Christmas music is supposed to be escapist, despite most people wanting to escape from it; this is escapism of another form.

Plus, "CHRisTmas in the SiLenT ForeSt" (the caps are necessary) delivers two things that, when combined, I am nigh-on guaranteed to love: churning strings and futuristic chase-scene percussion. Like everything on this soundtrack, Sarah Brightman should cover it.

  1. Earlier this year I checked an item off my impractical karaoke song wishlist by doing "Rise," and only kind of eating shit.
