Advertising postcard for early-2000s Australian women's e-commerce website theLounge(dot)co.au.
Thoughts, in order:
- Yes, ladies, All a woman needs is right here, on the function keys: to learn, to indulge, to smile, to relax, and to shop!
- I don't remember whether the smudges on the keys are just my camera or if the actual postcard is like that, but if it's the actual postcard, then uh you probably should have cleaned your keys first.
- There is some sparse coverage of this site findable online, like this business brief, about its acquisition alongside a lot of sites you also have not heard of in 2022, and this piece of prophecy from The Age from 20 years ago that now comes off extremely "you vs. the computer she told you not to worry about":
"(Online magazines) have been a spectacular failure," (Cosmopolitan editor Mia Freedman) says. "Reading a magazine is a very intimate thing. You take it to bed, you take it to the beach, you take it to the bath, and you can't do that with a computer. It's certainly not a threat. We have to give women a multi-media experience — you have to be represented online but that's just part of marketing these days."
I have done literally all of these things with a computer. Time! It comes for us all!
