so, back in the early 2000s i used to spend time on [H]ard|OCP, because i was really into Computer. at some point, i clicked on this video that

A) depicted a PC going up in smoke when the heatsink was removed while a game was running, but then another machine that continued to run indefinitely after its heatsink was removed

but far more importantly

B) the soundtrack was an absurd acapella rendition of Disco Inferno, followed by the worst house remix of foreigner's Cold As Ice you've ever heard in your life

I thought this was a hilarious burn. i mean, i was twelve, but this was the funniest possible thing in an era when the most popular joke was about how AMDs ran so hot you could cook eggs on them (true, although P3s could do the same thing.)

i searched for this video at least once a year for almost twenty years, but I never found it until a few months ago, when i discovered

oh sorry i forgot to mention that reading this post will ruin your fucking life

that youtube search lets you use the terms "after" and "before", so you can tell it to only show you e.g. videos uploaded earlier than 2010

it only took half an hour of searching for stuff like "overclocking before:2010" to come across this video, which is exactly as good as i remembered

i had also, in the intervening years, tried to find this version of Disco Inferno countless times, simply because it was extremely funny. i never found it until I checked the Youtube comments and someone had IDed it as The Bobs.

it is sometimes incredible what waiting a few decades will get you
