Molten Salt Reactor

becoming a single-issue yimby for building molten salt reactors

this will solve climate change, I assume

I am an English major, not a scientist, so if someone knows science feel free to correct me. But! I’ve read up on them.

Short version is: nuclear reactions are so hot we realized we could use salt to cool them. The salt still melts because hot. But salt being used as the coolant means if things go fucky, the salt can be cooled a bit more into a solid, and it’s much more stable than water so you eliminate a lot of the possible disasters that happen with reactors, you make other disasters much less disastrous, and since salt is super stable and common it’s not hard to work with. Also! When you have nuclear waste it’s easily encased in lots of salt too so it makes that easier to manage.
