"Creepy? Sure. Great for marketing? Definitely."
Especially if you're in an area served by Cox internet, you should raise hell about the fact anyone thought it was acceptable (and even clever!) to listen to your phone and smart devices to target ads at you. Especially especially in this age where ad-tech surveillance is enthusiastically being used to prosecute people and restrict their civil rights.
Places you can start:
- City or county government, if they give Cox a license to operate in your area
- State attorney general's office, department of commerce, and/or consumer protection agency
- Federal Trade Commission (this is their catch-all form, even though it says "fraud" it should still work)
- State and federal legislators
- Anyone you know who has a marketing degree? Like, fuck man, come on.
but for now do the other stuff
I also like that their answer to "Is this legal?" is "Yes, you can trick people into agreeing to it!"
Violence. Fire. Destruction. Death to capitalism starting with these fuckers right here.
