Actually parrots use gathered aggregate like this to aid in the digestion of the virgin souls of the righteous that fall by their talons of vanity.
Pikmin is based on parrots, but they changed some of the details to avoid causing a panic.
And the colorful ones shall inherit the Earth; eating it.
