the other day while streaming someone asked what "the limitations of tracker music" were so I spent an hour explaining the history of the concept and the difference between conventional subtractive, FM and sample based synthesis, and then gave a demo of how module composition works in adlibtracker. so if you've wondered if I'm ever "off": no

also the short answer is that the question is invalid; "tracker music" describes somewhere between two dozen and two hundred formats with wildly different capabilities. it is like asking what the limitations of "programming" are, so i had to give a thorough answer to make that clear. and you know, this illustrates that it's a problem when we talk about "tracker music" without being more specific. that phrase doesn't really mean anything! we should probably use clearer terminology so this kind of misconception doesn't happen!

every single time someone suggests that i release shorter videos or break them up into pieces i just have to calmly fold my hands in my lap and take three deep breaths and carefully reply "that would require me to stop talking before the idea was explained correctly. i would be leaving something out if i did that."

The number of formats is definitely closer to 200. 😅 I can't speak for AdLib formats, but libxmp is getting close to supporting 100 sampled formats. About half of those are Amiga packer formats for MODs that are questionably "unique," though.

moooooood. there is very little margin for error in the way I want my concept web to be expressed, I'm not gonna start hacking away at it to please somebody else. you get me going, I'm gonna make it through the next ten paragraphs for my benefit even if you've already left the room. (though I might start crying if you did.)

honestly that one part of Slaughterhouse-Five where the Tralfamadorians say "we can't interfere with future events, the moment is structured that way" was oddly clarifying to me in ways that don't appear at all related to time travel to literally anyone else

do I believe in free will? well maybe you have it, but I doubt that I do
