one of my dreams as an adolescent was to develop an irc client for Firefox OS.
thats where i was at as a kid
it feels funny but at the same time it betrays so many dimensions of optimism towards tech and the future that feels sorely missed now

yep! Firefox OS, it was an attempt to make a free, fully web-based mobile operating system by Mozilla. It was considered a failure and Mozilla discontinued it, but variants of it still exist to this day for some smart TVs and lower-spec phones.
i'm familiar with it, did it have distinct advantages we miss out on today?
