my grand unifying theory of tokusatsu is that it all falls on a cool ↔️ good spectrum—the best ones don't take themselves seriously and are filled with corny gags, making them good but uncool, and vice versa. (maybe more accurately it's a cool/uncool x good/ungood 2d axis)
but: spiderman, king of the margins is hot and kamejim has a cool costume with a little dangly bit
all the digital environments feel really stale, but this is also the first time toei has consistently pulled off digital mech fights that don't look like ass
