I do UI programming for AAA games and I have opinions about adult games
this is why I'm glad I never got very far with any of the projects I was working on in Unity, and switched to trying to learn Godot instead, which I'm sure will come with completely different sorts of regret.
hi what the Fuck did they do while i was asleep. what did unity do this time.
now when your game crosses a certain threshold in revenue+downloads, you're gonna have to pay a fee to unity's pockets to have your game downloaded by people.

WHAT. WHAT. WHAT. WHAT. WHAT.
thank you for the explanation kind stranger! now i am as incensed as the rest of my cohost timeline
Also got rid of the mid level tier for their engine's pro features made for small indies so now it's only free tier with less features and a Unity Splash Screen or $1000+ $2000+ USD a year subscription. Also cancelled it today. So if you were a mid level dev you now have to decide today whether to drop a grand to recoup features.
Edit: I just checked, it's 2000 USD now. Wtf.
me, browsing my timeline in the past five minutes.
Also me: downloading duolingo and buying "learn Hindi in 30 days" from a charity shop for that sweet reduced runtime fee
Wish they would just pick a sustainable royalty amount and stick to it, that would make it much more viable to plan a project around than trying to guess what weird ass thing they're gonna do next.
