German healthcare system could never

Now that I'm in the Netherlands, I ordered some new Brain Pillz™ by logging into a website with my government-mandated QR code and clicking "Order more."

In Germany, I had to travel 45 minutes for my doctor to hand me a piece of paper that I then handed to my local pharmacy, only for them to look in the system and tell me that they were out of Brain Pillz™ so please come back tomorrow.

Unfortunately, I'm also paying through the nose for this service with my health insurance, while in Germany it was practically free. 🙃

If you had The Paper, could you at least try a diffetent pharmacy?

The problem was getting the paper! You could hand it in at any pharmacy, but you'd also have to pick up your order at that specific pharmacy. So it would take me at least two hours to refill my prescription every three months. 😵

So, uh imagine having to go through that, but you don't get A Paper, you doctor just sends off to a pharmacy, and you hope the pharmacy keeps the med in stock, and you can't go to another pharmacy without calling the doctor about it? That's where pain meds are in the US these days.
