I learned tonight that before we were making Helldivers II, we were making Sifu. And before that, we were making Death Stranding. And before that, we were making SnowRunners. But good news, we haven't had a Pivot™ like that in almost a year now! Which means we're due for another one...

Oh, it's incredibly miserable. You're just sitting in a meeting, minding your own business, and you're getting all these weird new tasks that make no sense until you eventually piece together that we're making Helldivers II now. Because that's the game the Directors have been playing lately. The whole game is like a lasagna of poorly considered systems that were hacked in at the last minute to satisfy requirements copied from other, and better, games. So I can't wait to see what summer blockbuster we'll have to copy this time. 🙃
Yeah, even a reasonable disagreement about the direction can be frustrating at times, and this sounds 100x worse. Hope you’re able to cope with this somehow or tune it out.
The more I learn about AAA, the more I surprised that any big games end up being coherent at all.
