the Wikipedia article about HTC Sense has, since late 2023, contained no picture illustrating what HTC Sense was, because some fuck went and blurred out the single picture citing that it was a “copyrighted UI”, this shit has got to stop man, Wikipedia is rotting

apparently it was deleted in 2018? but like. iOS has a picture, why the heck can this random android ui not??

ignoring the question of what does 'non free ui' even mean, i have to be able to look at a user interface, thats how user interfaces work, it's not the source code
yeah it seems like the most overly cautious interpretation possible of copyright but also the stupidest
if i felt like a nerd-fight (and wasn't ipblocked on my work computer) i'd just. put the original back up. because it's very stupid.
Looking at it, in principle the UI could be construed as somehow copywritten though I don't think you'd be able to defend if pushed on it. Probably a weird rule enforcer on Commons, you could reupload the original locally to enwiki and use that one instead as it would be easily acceptable under fair use, no reason to use an edited version of the image.
Definitely a "weird rule enforcer," I looked at their talk page and where someone complained about the deletion of a particular image without specifying which one, their reply was like, "which one? I deleted 250 images today"
