Youtube got an add through my uBlock Origin setup today.
It was a single still image; the video refused to load. Hoping the uBlock Origin team gets it back under the belt shortly, and that this was just a minor setback.
I hope the youtube marketing, advertising and C-suite teams have health scares that money cannot save them from.
Considering their ad revenue is up double digits this quarter/year, internally, I wish for worse upon them, but I'm not gonna say it publicly.
Yeah, I've been seeing the same thing today. Honestly getting a single-frame fallback "ad" is just kinda funny at this point but I'm sure uBlock will have it figured out shortly
The Ublock subreddit has been talking about it all day. There are new filters to stop it.
Youtube is now injecting ads into the video stream itself so stopping them has to get a little more clever, but the filters will work. For now. Until the next volley of the arms race launches.
The filter updates don't work with a 100% guarantee yet.
Strong reminder to all that FreeTube can accept your subscription list if you export it from your YT account, and doesn't even need you to sign in to use it fully. It comes with SponsorBlock and DeArrow, and is completely unaffected by this.
EDIT: If ALL ELSE FAILS, remember yt-dlp to just straight up download your videos. Takes some setup, and you gotta get a command line written up that has all the things you want, but damn, when you wanna just wholesale snatch a video from the jaws of capitalism, this works a treat.
There's also NewPipe for android1 devices. Strongly, strongly recommend across the board. If corporations are going to keep gaining money from the unfortunate masses, then it's your moral obligation to take from these greedy aberrations mercilessly and without hesitation. There is no part of the chain where by supporting Youtube you support creators in a way that is truly worth it - they too are being horrifically harmed by Youtube's practices.
YT isn't the only way to share videos online. It can be done without them. They are not a necessity, they are just holding a repository of videos hostage for money. Burn them down.

Sorry, I don't support/give a fuck about iPhone/Apple devices. I only give a shit about android devices b/c they're not fully held by a monopoly. The hardware isn't the issue - the company is. Fuck their walled garden, regardless of its quality. Tear it all down.
