it might seem like the lab specializes in genital prosthetics, but that is the consequence of me being mostly a nsfw page, therefore art of them "testing" (in quotes because well. sometimes it doesn't look very scientific) robotic dildos is in abundance. in reality, i have always thought of their research as having a broader purpose, so they do develop other various limb replacemets, attachments, and enhancements (the facility itself is named PRoBEL, which stands for Prosthetics & Robotic Body Enhancements Laboratory).
the story is sci-fi-ish, set in an alternative nearby future (2050), and in this setting, cybernetic body augmentation is fairly common, though it is not always done out of necessity as much as out of personal preference. kind of like in cyberpunk, but not that extreme or dystopian.
also, this is unrelated to your question (sorry, you got me going), but k0tya is also somewhat of a novelty in the context of the story. i was thinking of making it so that there was a huge boom in developing androids in the 2010s, but after several incidents the scientists of the time realized that either the science that went into their robots or the materials they were reliant on to build them made them prone to malfunctioning in the long run (kind of like how we have lithium batteries that sometimes explode). so they went back to the drawing board but were unable to find a surefire way to make androids safer and easier to make. so production was brought to a minimum until someone comes up with something better, and over the years maintenance became very expensive due to the lack of spare parts. k0tya was one of the last produced robots of her type, and when she started breaking down due to age the family that owned her decided it would make more sense to just get rid of her than to spend money on repairs, especially since the kids she was tasked with looking after were already adults, and the elderly have died. shura found her a few years later at a scrap sale, turned off and with half her body missing. she saw it as an opportunity for a fun restoration project, and then the rest is history.
anyway, sorry, yes! k0tya does help in testing other stuff. i'm just horny about robots, so my art of k0tya is sort of a "porn parody" of the real thing. i mean, the scientists are just having full on sex with her at this point. which would be very unprofessional if it wasn't porn logic. the game i'm making about k0tya and the others is much more grounded in reality, so mentions of anything sexual are very vague. it's mostly just this:
