Anway I'd taken a break from the game to finish up this month's fic, but also I saw a post on tumblr a few weeks ago from someone I followed that read, and I quote: "Just the scene of the cannon shooting Mario to the moon from TTYD was better than the whole Origami King"
Now, I, whose favorite Paper Mario game is Origami King, was equal parts baffled and curious. I had only gotten to the very beginning of chapter 7, and I knew that the updated artstyle of the remake lended itself well to the bigger setpieces the game had to offer. So I was curious; did they take that scene of Mario being launched to the moon and somehow make it even more grand and epic? The concept was a little bit exciting, and my anticipation grew. So I finally booted the game up today and played the 25 or so minutes I had left up until Mario was launched to the moon.
And y'all, having watched the sequence in its entirety, I am very excited to say...that the Tumblr user in question is a straight-up Hater. Full of shit. Blinded by nostalgia and the indignation of some things just not being meant for them, stymied by their resistance to change. In other words, it's the exact same sequence but in HD. Doesn't hold a candle to any of Origami King's late-game setpieces in the slightest (although whoever modeled that cannon hopefully took home a sweet bag of cash it looked gorgeous). The updated music was cute, though.
