last night i bit the bullet and installed arch ^O^

i still have a ton of settings and stuff to migrate from my manjaro install on the other hard drive, but the "spring cleaning" feeling makes it all worthwhile. this was half driven by the simple compulsion to install linux on something (it's been a whole year!!) and half because... recent headlines have been making me anxious to "company behaves badly tomorrow"-proof my workflow. not that i'm super wary of manjaro or anything, but i want to be closer to where the community support is strongest. for the principle of it if nothing else.

anyway i had a look at hyprland but i couldn't find a status bar that i could configure comfortably without breaking it so i chickened out of learning to use a tiling window manager for now. but i am haveing fun taking this opportunity to re-customize plasma... if i want to learn the tiling wm workflow maybe i can make use of plasma features to do it.

in reply to @mu-suwi's post:

i can install the icon theme from the AUR so i didn't have to worry about downloading it from github or using make ^O^ i kind of don't like using icon sets though, they inevitably end up overwriting app icons and other stuff that i rely on being able to instantly recognize on my screen

based on looking at the github page, if you're on debian you should be able to do this:

clone the git repo from the url (found in the secret github download button that only l33t hax0rs know how to find):

git clone https://github.com/mdomlop/retrosmart-icon-theme.git

enter the folder you just made:

cd retrosmart-icon-theme

use make inside the folder to create a package for dpkg:

make dpkg

use dpkg to install the .deb you just made:

sudo dpkg -i retrosmart-icon-theme_*.deb

EDIT: added explanations for what these do

Somethings wrong when I try to run the configure script

mary@lappy:~/retrosmart-icon-theme$ ./configure ./configure: 41: function: not found include makefile.in retrosmart-icon-theme: -e mkdir -p retrosmart-icon-theme/scalable retrosmart-icon-theme/index.theme: retrosmart-icon-theme -e cp src/index.theme retrosmart-icon-theme/ ./configure: 53: local: not in a function
