yeah! i did actually get a bass!!

it feels great to finally have strings in my life again after kinda fucking up the first attempt when i was 15 (i was too impatient to save up for an amp, so i got an acoustic bass, and that thing was so much harder to play that i barely did a thing with it)

i definitely got a reality check after obsessing about this for a whole month and finally having it in my hands and barely being able to do anything lol.... but i know it was the correct decision because i can't stop picking it up and playing with it even though my fingertips hurt like fuck

it's definitely weird, it feels different from any other fine motor skill. it does get easier as you spend time with it though! it's 90% just building confidence and the rest is finding efficient motions that are suited to your body. i still refuse to use my pinky

also i figured out that it's a lot easier if you think of finding a fret and plucking it with the other hand as one continuous motion that you do at the same time. you get a lot less awkward buzzing that way
