The user experience issues that hobble basically every open-source anything β€” that is, not being able to provide as seamless and effortless of an experience as products which can throw immense amounts of VC money at usability improvements β€” are totally surmountable! …it'll just require the abolition of capitalism.

If you ever want to see The Year Of The Linux Desktop, join a communist org or something of the sort. Electoralism will never help you on that front. 🀷

And if you're interested in more ethical approaches to computing, might I suggest: working in solidarity with the people around the world who do the less glamorous labour needed to make computing possible? We can have ethical technology! It just means going beyond slapping the GPL onto products mostly developed by burnt out, impoverished multiply marginalised people, and supporting pay equality across the entire supply chain.

Which is to say, people mining coltan in the DRC, people working in tech factories of all sorts across East and Southeast Asia, and the autistic plural transfems who keep a disproportionate number of FLOSS projects running whatsofuckingever, deserve the same pay and standard of living as FAANG software engineers. In nominal currency, too, not just PPP. Wage devaluation in the periphery is imperialism, and it is violence.
