if you're only gonna see the partial eclipse, or outside of totality if you're in the path, i recommend finding a tree with lots of leaves (one which has dappled light in the shadow) and checking out the innumerable tiny images of the eclipsed sun cast on the ground below.

a tree is a natural collection of pinhole cameras and a partial eclipse is the only time this is obvious!

This worked great! I only had about a minute when the sun wasn’t covered by clouds, but that minute was the first time in my life I was able to actually see a partial eclipse.
