went on a mushroom hunt and didn't find anything to eat, but did find a nice little patch of these guys. technically edible (and ok to consume with alcohol, unlike their cousin the common ink cap or 'tippler's bane'), but flesh-wise they're barely there – i was still very happy to find them, because i've been wanting to have another go at making mushroom ink.

i made some shaggy ink cap ink a few years ago as an experiment and it was extremely cool, gonna see if i can dig out the little painting of some mushroom ghosts i did with it. shaggy ink caps deliquesce FAST, these apparently take a bit longer. will post progress.

cute weekend idea: get in a bowl with your mushroom friends and melt into a globby puddle of ink together

INK, BABEY

this is the same deliquesced mushrooms with a little bit of processing - heated for about 15 mins in a pyrex jug in a pan of boiling water, with some salt and cloves as hopeful preservative measures, then strained through a sieve. will see how it behaves as an actual ink soon!

also hey sorry but not really to cross the streams, and truly no assumptions about what people are or aren't doing outside of social media, but shit feels especially desperate today and it appears that mushrooms are the key to doing severals so if you've enjoyed these posts at all please consider sharing or donating to one of these initiatives to help people in gaza. thank you.

yeah, it does, it's a bit hard to describe - it started very mushroomy and now that it's mostly liquid still has a bit of that fungal smell but is a bit more, idk, sweet? and definitely chemical-smelling. i don't know if i'm projecting 'it smells like ink' but i think it does
