Something I'm excited about for tomorrow (apart from watching the Tories get kicked out of office ๐Ÿ˜‚), is I'll hopefully be taking delivery of some marimo moss balls. I've got a mason jar ready for them, but who knows, maybe in time I can build up to something like

My Marimo moss balls arrived via Royal Mail. I am giving them some ice cubes and a pinch of salt because their journey might have been stressful (not least it's warm today.)

in reply to @AtFruitBat's post:

They are supposed to be relatively easy to care for as a houseplant. I've been watching videos and reading write ups, and there's some differences in recommended practice across the board.

But in general the consensus is that they do pretty well with a water change every 1-2 weeks. Maybe keep them in an open vessel rather than a closed/sealed one. When changing the water, squeeze them gently to drain out the water inside, and roll them gently between your palms to help promote a round shape (since in nature the tides would be rolling them around.) And also they probably do best out of direct sunlight.

Beyond that, there's differences in opinion on the type of water to use (some people use tap water, some people filter it), on ice cube baths (they prefer cooler temperatures), on popping them in the fridge as a treatment, on letting them have a little salt water once in a while (and what type of salt to use), on using carbonated water once in a while to promote more photosynthesis, etc, etc. So I'm going to have to play it by ear and see what works through a little trial and error. ๐Ÿ˜‚
