Wanted to use up the rest of this block of DAS, so thought I'd try seeing how it behaves in a mold. I'd seen some videos of folks doing this to make embellishments for other crafts. I'm not sure how well it'll work, but that's what experiments are for~
Still had way too much clay left over after filling this old blocky rune mold. Grabbed another oldie, this vegvesir plate mold, for the rest. Both are pretty worn out, so I'm not going to cry if anything goes wrong with either. It really does show how tough it is to smooth out DAS clay, though. That's about as even and level as I could make it after 15 minutes of squidging and pressing.
No clue how long it will take either to dry, even if they fully do. Might have to gently demold after a day or two to try getting some air to the inner surfaces.
Well, these are definitely results?
I took a good bit of effort with the runes to try and make sure all the corners were filled but there's still some gaps. Tearing, too. The faces were still a bit damp and didn't all come away neatly. Should've dusted the molds with corn flour, I'm told. Ah well.
It's all a bit ragged, but I can't say I dislike it? Kind of gives them a rustic feel. I'll probably try it again with some other clay types to see how they differ
Ah.
Well.
Clay doesn't have quite the structural integrity of ecoresin, I suppose.

Okay, think I'm seeing why I keep seeing clay artists using panes of glass or tiles. This stuff really grabs onto the texture of the cutting board and doesn't wanna let go. Doesn't feel like a bad first stab at using these cutters though.
This is gonna be a whole learning experience.
