Turns out it's so much easier to just be a criminal in Shadows of Doubt than it is to be a detective and solve cases. People just leave diamonds and upgrade disks in the darndest places!
...Seriously though, just systematically breaking in to houses and rifling through people's identifiers seems to be an amazing way to passively collect a database on the citizens of the town in case you do decide to solve a murder or two
